安達太良・吾妻 自然センター (Adatara Azuma Nature Center)は、磐梯朝日国立公園に広がる３つの活火山と湖沼群をつなぐロングトレイル ハイキングルート「磐梯・吾妻・安達太良ボルケーノトレイル®︎」のトレイルセンターの役割を担っています。日本百名山にも数えられる「磐梯山（標高1816m）」、「吾妻山（標高2035m）」、「安達太良山（標高1700m）」をつなぎ、周囲に点在する古くからの温泉地や​山小屋、キャンプ場などに泊まりながら「旅」としての山歩きを愉しむことができるルートのご提案をしています。
　このロングトレイル の特徴は、なんと言っても旅路の中で３つの活火山＝VOLCANO（ボルケーノ）をめぐること。磐梯朝日国立公園の中でも同じ「磐梯吾妻・猪苗代地域」にありながら、その山容や成り立ちも含めて三山三様であり、それぞれを繋いで歩くからこそ見える互いのエリアの情景もこのトレイルの魅力のひとつです。
　また、火山の噴火活動がつくり出した湖沼群にも触れながら歩くことができるのも、ボルケーノトレイルならでは。磐梯山の山体崩壊により形成された桧原湖は、日本一大きな火山性の堰止湖としても知られています。その他にも日本で４番目に大きな湖「猪苗代湖」や、裏磐梯の人気観光スポット「五色沼湖沼群」、そして吾妻連峰の東側には魔女の瞳とも称されるカルデラ湖なども見られ、それらのランドマークを紡ぎながら総延長200km以上のルートを歩きます。
　ロングトレイル の良いところは、マラソン大会などとは違い全部を１度に完結させる必要がないことです。自分のペースで、歩きたい季節に歩きたい距離を踏んでいき、何年もかけて踏破を目指すのもロングトレイル というチャレンジの醍醐味でしょう。また、初めから踏破を目指さずに、例えば「温泉×セクションハイク」などテーマ型の愉しみ方ができるのも「磐梯・吾妻・安達太良ボルケーノトレイル®︎」のセールスポイントです。
　このように多様な時間の過ごし方ができるこの地域を、より多くの人たちにご案内するための場として、安達太良自然センターがあります。このトレイルを歩く計画を立てるためのサポートはもちろん、セクションハイクを含むガイディングツアーやルート周辺地域での自然体験アクティビティなども実施しています。また、「磐梯・吾妻・安達太良ボルケーノトレイル®︎」というプラットフォームを活用し、県市町村の枠を越えた次世代を担う人のつながりを形成することで、この大自然に囲まれた国立公園の持続可能性を考える機会にしていきたいと考えています。

Bandai-Azuma-Adatara Volcano Trail

　Adatara Azuma Nature Center serves as the trail center for the Bandai-Azuma-Adatara Volcano Trail®, a long-trail hiking route that connects three active volcanoes and lakes in Bandai-Asahi National Park. The route connects Mount Bandai (1,816m above sea level), Mount Azuma (2,035m above sea level), and Mount Adatara (1,700m above sea level), all of which are counted among Japan's 100 most famous mountains, and offers a way to enjoy mountain walking as a "journey" while staying at the ancient hot springs, mountain huts, and campsites scattered around the area.

　The defining feature of this long trail is that it travels around three active volcanoes, or VOLCANOes, along the way. Although they are all in the same "Bandai-Azuma-Inawashiro region" of Bandai-Asahi National Park, the three mountains are all different in terms of their mountain shapes and origins, and the scenery of each area can only be seen by walking between them, which is one of the attractions of this trail.

　The Volcano Trail is also unique in that you can walk while touching the lakes and ponds created by volcanic eruptions. Lake Hibara, formed by the collapse of Mount Bandai, is known as the largest volcanic dammed lake in Japan. Other sights to see include Lake Inawashiro, the fourth largest lake in Japan, the popular tourist spot of Urabandai's Goshiki-numa Lakes and Ponds, and the caldera lake on the east side of the Azuma mountain range, also known as the Witch's Eye. You will walk along a route that is more than 200 km long, weaving together these landmarks.

　The good thing about long trails is that, unlike marathons, you don't have to complete the entire trail in one go. The best part of the long trail challenge is walking the distance you want to walk at your own pace, in the season you want to walk, and aiming to complete it over the course of several years. Another selling point of the Bandai-Azuma-Adatara Volcano Trail® is that you can enjoy the trail in a theme-based way, such as "hot springs x section hikes," without aiming to complete it from the beginning.

　The Adatara Nature Center is a place to introduce this area, which offers such diverse ways to spend time, to as many people as possible. In addition to providing support for planning to walk this trail, the center also offers guided tours, including section hikes, and nature experience activities in the areas surrounding the route. In addition, by utilizing the platform of the Bandai-Azuma-Adatara Volcano Trail®, we hope to create an opportunity to think about the sustainability of this national park surrounded by nature by forming connections between people who will be responsible for the next generation beyond the boundaries of prefectures, cities, towns, and villages.
